Montreal

On 20 September, we took to the streets and remained silent for one hour. Our silence and our black clothing were so impactful that we faced a counter-protest of about 50 pro-Israeli-occupation and Islamophobic people. We were told that we hated and betrayed women, that we wanted Muslim women to remain oppressed. They also mocked us, saying that wearing black symbolizes the oppression of Muslim women (burqa). All of this happened while they wore blue, danced to pop songs, and laughed in our faces. At the same time, we received tremendous support from the public, and we believe it is essential to continue these actions. Our next vigil is on 25 October at 1.00 pm.
