Duluth

Since November, we have been holding a Women in Black vigil every Friday in Duluth Minnesota, USA. Our vigil calls for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and an end to Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory. Sponsored by Northland Grandmothers for Peace, we meet at noon on Fridays. Initially we met for an hour, but in the fierce Minnesota winter we stand for 30 minutes. We are at a busy intersection in downtown Duluth.

Our silent vigil is followed by participants reading names of Palestinians who have been killed. People share their grief and their hopes. We close with a song that reminds us we are all part of the human family. Sometimes there are only two people there, sometimes a dozen. Our witness and our vigil brings the ongoing struggle home to passersby, and gives us a chance to send our deepest thoughts and hopes for peace and justice into the world.

Where: Minnesota Power Plaza at Lake Avenue and Superior St

WOMEN IN BLACK TO HOLD VIGIL FOR CEASEFIRE IN GAZA

The Northland Chapter of Grandmothers for Peace is sponsoring a Women In Black silent vigil at 4:00 PM on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Minnesota Power Plaza at Lake Avenue and Superior St. The Vigil is in support of the “Ceasefire Now” Congressional Resolution sponsored by Representatives Cory Bush, Ilhan Omar and others, calling for an immediate ceasefire and end to the killing in Gaza.

Women In Black stands in silent solidarity and mourns all people who are being killed and maimed in the bombings and fighting in Gaza. We stand with all who are committed to peace, justice and a civilized world. ALL GENDERS are welcome to participate in the vigil.

The Women In Black tradition began in the Northland during the Iraq War in 2003. Its roots originated in Israel in 2001 to  end the occupation of Palestinian lands. There are at least 150 chapters throughout the world.
