November 2024: We now meet on the 1st Monday of the month from 4.00-4.45 in the centre of Bradford on the corner of Bank Street and Hustlergate (near Waterstones) and opposite the Tiffin Cafe, where some of us meet from around 3.15 for a coffee and to get to know newcomers. We have a different theme each month and give out leaflets about the theme. We have had vigils around the situation in Palestine but others such as other wars going on. This month (November) we remembered all victims of war and gave out white poppies. We generally have a good response to our vigils.
From 2023: for Palestine, individual members of WIB have been involved in local demonstrations and one member has made twobanners which she stands behind every afternoon at present for two hours. Other WIB members join her when they can. …. Our group meets once a month on Monday. We discussed having the Palestine tragedy as our theme but have decided to have peace as our theme to highlight all wars, as we did last year at the beginning of November and gave out white poppies free to passers by as well as leaflets, whichwere well received.
In Bradford, Women in Black originally came together at the junction of Bank Street and Hustlergate (BD1 1PR) on the first Thursday of every month, 4.30 to 5.30 pm, to stand in silence to protest war and injustice across the world and the militarist policies of our own government. We held our initial vigil on 2nd January 2020. We also held a vigil at Menwith Hill on the third Tuesday of every month. All women are welcome to join us.
